The Himeville Museum is situated in the last fortified laager built in South Africa in 1896. The Museum opened in 1981. The house is furnished in early 1900 style and each prison cell houses a different display. It is reputed to be one of the best rural museums in South Africa. Displays depict Settler Homes, introduction of Trout to our area, Bushman Rock Art and many more.
View early 20th Century household items and antiques, truly well worth a visit! Himeville grew up around the surviving fort, which was for many years used as the local jail. Today, one half is the museum, and the other half serves as the current magistrate's court.
